EMBEDDED is an honest account of my unlikely adventures as a television sex journalist. For five years I covered the world of adult entertainment as a producer for Sexcetera, Playboy TV’s erotic answer to 60 Minutes. I was sent across America and to ten other countries to explore the hidden depths of human sexuality. The bawdy tales of my submersion into this notorious underground have been the overwhelming sensation of every cocktail party I have since attended. The exotic locales, the bizarre characters, the extraordinary desires, and the startling sex acts — all are endlessly fascinating and all are absolutely authentic human experiences.
Set against this raw, carnal backdrop, EMBEDDED serves up my own “authentic human experience” — a tender, improbable, and often tormented love story. This book chronicles how a product of Groton, Wesleyan, and LL Bean wound up in the arms an ex-stripper turned Skin-a-max Queen. My journey through the looking glass into the heart of human sexuality reveals myself as I was—fascinated by what I saw, awakened by what I heard, and confused by what I did.
Without apology, EMBEDDED shows how I traded the safety of my prep identity for the freedom of the porn world, only to become trapped between two opposing lifestyles. This journal explores my ongoing struggle between “Prep” and “Porn,” between grace and the grotesque, between repression and expression, between button-down shirts and rubber body suits, between what is expected and what is desired, between what is polite and what is true. But, most of all, EMBEDDED is a modern day romance.
